Pastoral Residency

New City Church is committed to leadership development for the sake of Kingdom multiplication in Maine. Our residency is designed for men who have already confirmed their call to pastoral ministry through their local church, but need further development before being officially commissioned to the work.

This residency is both practical and theological. Each week the residents are responsible for completing the readings and video teachings that correspond with the topic of that week in preparation for the weekly cohort. We use the material of the ministry of Practical Shepherding to guide this experience.

Each resident will be required to write a variety of book reports and position papers throughout the year to help prepare him for shepherding in local church.

Potential position paper topics: Divorce and Remarriage, Church Polity, Homosexuality, Abortion, etc.

The residents will be given opportunity to apply their knowledge and training in practical ways, including…

1. Opportunities to preach and teach

2. Preaching training

3. Leading communion

4. Leading teams and/or projects

5. Disciple-making

…And more!

There are three possible outcomes we are aiming for with this training. The resident will either…

1. Plant a church in a Maine community as the lead pastor.

2. Revitalize a dying or declining church in Maine as the lead pastor.

3. Be equipped to join a team of elder/pastors at New City or another local church in our network.
